Following the ban of TikTok in India, social media users want to know if they can access the site through VPN.
TikTok recently made headlines after India banned the app and 58 other Chinese apps.
People have immediately taken to other social media platforms such as Twitter and Instagram, complaining about the ban and looking for ways to use TikTok again.
So, here’s how to access TikTok using a VPN service.
WHY HAS INDIA BANNED TIKTOK?
The government in India has banned the app earlier this week because of an “emergent nature of threat”.
The BBC wrote that the ban came from “many complaints from various sources” about apps that were “stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorised manner”.
As a result, internet providers such as Vodafone and Airtel have blocked access to those 59 apps, which include Xender and ShareIt.
HOW TO USE VPN FOR TIKTOK
Following the ban, a number of VPN providers have listed ways to access TikTok from India.
For example, PureVPN states on their website that you can log in the app using their service “without any restrictions”.
The service is available on a range of mobile and desktop platforms, including iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, and Linux.

PEOPLE REACT ON SOCIAL MEDIA
While some VPN services such as PureVPN above state they can give access to TikTok users in India, a number of people on Twitter have complained that VPN doesn’t work for them.
For example, some have said that services such as Express VPN or Nord VPN didn’t allow them access to TikTok.
One user said: “No more tiktok in India Not able to open with vpn any suggestion how to access tiktok one last time.”
Another one added: “India has literally blocked backend url of tiktok… so even VPN like the premium ones can’t help either.”
Meanwhile, one user said that they were able to access TikTok using an old phone, suggesting that changing a device or resetting your existing one might help.
it looks like TikTok is blocking by device ID. if you have logged on tiktok before from a phone in india, it might not work anymore.
